Romina underscores role of parliamentarians in achieving green economy goals


Coordinator to Prime Minister on Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Romina Khurshid Alam has underscored the role of parliamentarians in achieving gender equality and green economy goals.

She was addressing a press conference in Islamabad today.

The press conference was about the two-day meeting of the Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development on ‘Gender Empowerment and Green Economy’ starting from Monday.

On this occasion, she said that gender equality and the empowerment of women are vital to addressing the world’s unprecedented intertwined global crises from food insecurity and climate change to conflict, fragility, and violence, to sluggish economic growth.

Spelling out the core objectives of the crucial Asian parliamentarians’ conference, the PM’s climate aide said that the event aims to deepen understanding of the gendered dimensions of climate change and the green economy; explore the vulnerabilities and strengths of women in these sectors.

The meeting will convene
more than twenty parliamentarians from AFPPD member countries, enhancing Pakistan’s image and reinforcing our ambitious role in the areas of climate action, gender equality, and the green economy.
