Govt got released 19,000 Pakistani prisoners detained abroad, NA informed

The National Assembly was informed on Monday that the government has successfully got released nineteen thousand out of the total thirty-two thousand Pakistani prisoners detained abroad.

Responding to a question during the Question Hour in the House on Monday, Parliamentary Secretary on Foreign Affairs Syed Hussain Tariq said these people have been repatriated to Pakistan.

He said foreign missions abroad are providing all possible assistance, including hiring and payment of lawyers, to Pakistani citizens detained in various countries. 

The Parliamentary Secretary said Missions also initiate mercy petitions in the royal courts of the host countries on behalf of the convicted prisoners.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has expressed concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Responding to points raised by various lawmakers regarding growing discontent in the province, he said it is unfortunate that the common man in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is suffering while the provincial government is utilizing all resources to bring Imran Khan back to power.  He said the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa baton charge against teachers, which is condemnable.

The Defence Minister urged the House to pay special attention toward the growing chaos in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Earlier, National Assembly started its session at the Parliament House in Islamabad this evening with Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf in the chair.

The House also passed various bills.

These include; “The Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (Amendment) Bill, 2022”and “The Capital Development Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2022” , “The Smart Institute of Science and Technology Bill, 2022” and “The Industrial Relations (Amendment) Bill, 2022.”
