Government Initiates Crackdown on Social Media Propagandists

ISLAMABAD: The government has commenced stringent actions against individuals implicated in disseminating false propaganda and orchestrating malicious campaigns on social media platforms. This move underscores the administration's commitment to curbing digital misinformation and maintaining public order. According to Radio Pakistan, the Inspector General of Islamabad has issued notices to several individuals charged with sowing chaos and disorder in Pakistan through social media campaigns. The accused include Sibghatullah Virak, Muhammad Arshad, Atta-ur-Rehman, Azhar Mashwani, Komal Afridi, Arusa Nadeem Shah, and M. Ali Malik. These individuals have been identified as part of a broader effort to trace and hold accountable those responsible for digital misinformation. The Federal Government has invoked Section 30 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016, to form a joint investigation team tasked with preventing social media-related crimes. This team has summoned the accused for questioning, scheduled for tomorrow. Authorities are continuing to identify additional individuals involved in such activities and are pursuing legal action against them in accordance with the country's laws.
