Lahore: The forty-third death anniversary of Pakistan's first Chief Justice, Mian Abdul Rashid, is being observed today. Mian Abdul Rashid, a prominent figure in Pakistan's judicial history, was born in 1889 in Baghbanpura, Lahore. He pursued his education at Forman Christian College and later at Christ's College, Cambridge, marking the beginning of a distinguished legal career. According to Radio Pakistan, Mian Abdul Rashid held several significant positions throughout his career. He served as an acting Judge at the Lahore High Court, an Advocate for the Government of Punjab, and a Judge of the Lahore High Court before ascending to the position of Chief Justice of Pakistan. Notably, on 15 August 1947, he administered the oath of office to Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the first Governor-General of Pakistan, highlighting his pivotal role in the country's formative years. Mian Abdul Rashid passed away on this day in 1981, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication to the judiciary in Pakistan.
