Bilal Kayani Urges Swift Resolution of Asaan Tax Scheme Issues

Islamabad:Minister of State for Finance, Bilal Azhar Kayani, has instructed the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and PRAL to promptly address technical concerns raised by shopkeepers and lawyers regarding the 'Asaan Tax Scheme'. According to Radio Pakistan, Kayani made these directives during a review meeting in Islamabad on the 'Asaan Tax Scheme'. The minister emphasized the need for FBR plates to be provided promptly to shopkeepers who have submitted their returns. He highlighted that the scheme is a unique initiative tailored specifically for shopkeepers, which is not available to other business sectors, and expressed optimism that more shopkeepers would participate. The minister also directed FBR officials and traders to maintain daily communication. The meeting resolved to enhance engagement with tax bars and lawyers to ensure the scheme's success. It was reported during the meeting that 9,806 shopkeepers have joined the 'Asaan Tax Scheme' since its inception a month ago, with 1,929 new participants who were not previously part of the tax system. Additionally, 428 shopkeepers have filed their returns under the scheme. Participants were informed that penalties would be imposed for non-payment of taxes by the deadline, in accordance with either the 'Asaan Tax Scheme' or the standard tax procedure. Shopkeepers from various city sizes have been participating in filing returns. Trader leaders present at the meeting described the 'Asaan Tax Scheme' as a positive step and assured the FBR of their full cooperation.
