Analyst Hails Government for Pressing Taliban Regime on Terrorism

Islamabad: Amb. A M Shahid, a former diplomat, has commended the Pakistani government for its firm stance against the Taliban regime, urging it to prevent the use of Afghan soil for terrorist activities targeting Pakistan. Pakistan has clearly communicated to the Afghan authorities that their territory should not serve as a base for terrorism against its neighbor. According to Radio Pakistan, the Foreign Office spokesperson highlighted the continuous attacks originating from Afghanistan, which have resulted in the loss of innocent lives in Pakistan. Since the Taliban assumed power in Kabul, there has been an alarming surge in terror attacks within Pakistan. These attacks have primarily targeted security forces, with perpetrators allegedly receiving shelter and support from the Kabul government. Despite the Taliban's earlier commitments to the US and the international community to prevent the use of Afghan territory for attacks on other countries, Pakistan continues to face security challenges. Pakistan has historically maintained positive relations with the Taliban regime, even when no other country recognized its government. The trade route through Pakistan remained open as a gesture of support. However, the recent escalation in terrorist incidents necessitated decisive action from the Taliban to prevent further attacks. The increasing frequency of these attacks has put both civilians and security personnel at risk, prompting Pakistan to close the trade route, as trade cannot coexist with ongoing terrorism. The Pakistani government has emphasized that it cannot bear further loss of life and property due to these persistent threats. The Taliban regime is believed to be aware of the terrorists operating within its borders and is urged not to provide them refuge. Pakistan stands ready to offer cooperation to the Taliban in eradicating terrorist elements from Afghan territory, aiming to restore peace and security in the region.
