New York:Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan's steadfast commitment to multilateralism and the central role of the United Nations in promoting international peace and development during a meeting with UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan's strong attachment to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and expressed deep appreciation for the Secretary-General's leadership in upholding these values across the organisation's work.
The discussions between the two leaders covered major regional and international developments, including the Middle East situation. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving regional tensions and reiterated Pakistan's commitment to promoting peace and stability.
Shehbaz Sharif also reaffirmed Pakistan's support for the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and statehood. The situation in Afghanistan and the increase in terrorism originating from Afghan soil were also part of the discussions. The UN Secretary-General commended Pakistan's prominent role and strong voice at the UN, as well as its contributions to international peace and security, including its significant mediation efforts and sacrifices in countering terrorism.
