Islamabad:Over 5.8 million individuals have been registered under the Prime Minister's Fuel Relief Scheme, as announced by Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja.
According to Radio Pakistan, Shaza Fatima Khawaja shared these details during a joint news conference with Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani in Islamabad. She reported that approximately 6.1 million tokens have been generated, and 4.7 million people have already benefited from the fuel relief facility.
The Minister highlighted changes to the scheme based on public feedback, including the removal of the five-litre fuel limit for motorcycles, rickshaws, and Qingqi. Additionally, the ownership requirement for users of rented motorcycles and rickshaws has been abolished. Under the revised scheme, motorcycle and rickshaw users can now obtain a 500-rupee token weekly without the previous five-litre restriction. Eligible vehicles up to 800cc can receive a discount of 100 rupees per litre for up to 10 litres per token.
Shaza Fatima Khawaja noted that the scheme has benefited around 4.7 million people in just eight days, covering all four provinces, Islamabad, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Addressing the news conference, Bilal Azhar Kayani emphasized that the identification process for eligible participants in the fuel relief scheme is conducted transparently.
