Islamabad: The National Emergency Response Committee has directed all stakeholders to further strengthen inter-agency coordination and ensure timely implementation of preventive measures to minimize the impact of weather events.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Committee convened at the NDMA Headquarters in Islamabad, with Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal presiding over the meeting. The purpose was to review the evolving monsoon situation and ongoing response efforts across the country.
During the meeting, a comprehensive briefing was provided on the current monsoon situation. This included the latest weather outlook, human and material losses, ongoing rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations, and the overall national response.
The Committee was informed that all Deputy Commissioners in potentially affected districts have already been alerted about the forecast rainfall and associated risks. This step is to ensure timely preparedness and prompt response measures at the district level.
It was noted that the majority of fatalities reported during this monsoon season have resulted from the collapse of vulnerable structures and damage to poorly constructed buildings. This highlights the need for enhanced public awareness and enforcement of safe construction practices.
The Committee expressed appreciation for the tireless efforts of federal ministries, provincial governments, district administrations, the armed forces, rescue services, and all responding agencies for their coordinated response in assisting affected communities.
