Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has announced that the technical level talks between Iran and the United States, conducted under the 'Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding,' are set to usher in a new era of peace, stability, and prosperity in the region. Speaking to the media alongside Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Islamabad, the Prime Minister expressed his pleasure at the conclusion of a conflict that had the potential to engulf the entire region and beyond.
According to Radio Pakistan, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the deep-rooted bonds between Pakistan and Iran, highlighting that the two nations are much more than neighbors; they are brothers linked by a shared history, faith, culture, and civilization. He expressed gratitude to the Iranian leadership for their trust in Islamabad to mediate the peace process, which was undertaken with utmost honesty.
The Prime Minister paid tribute to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Ali Khamenei for guiding Iran through challenging times with wisdom and sagacity. He also commended the Iranian nation for demonstrating unity, courage, and endurance throughout the crisis, which has been an inspiration.
Shehbaz Sharif acknowledged the serious and constructive participation of both Iranian and US delegations in the talks held in Switzerland. He also appreciated the support of other nations, including Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, for their efforts in resolving the crisis.
The Prime Minister lauded the dedicated efforts of Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar for their roles in the mediation process. He emphasized the enduring strength of the partnership between Pakistan and Iran, which has stood the test of time.
President Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran echoed similar sentiments, describing Pakistan as a brotherly and friendly country with deep historical, cultural, and religious ties. He praised Pakistan's responsible and visionary role in supporting regional stability discussions and invited friendly countries to establish a common understanding and build a new security structure for the region.
The Iranian President highlighted Iran's acceptance of the dialogue initiative as a reflection of the trust between the Iranian and Pakistani nations.
