Islamabad: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has appreciated Ministries and their in-charge Ministers for completing the first three waves of the rightsizing exercise successfully. He was chairing a meeting of the Committee on Rightsizing the Federal Government in the city today.
According to Radio Pakistan, the purpose in the first three waves was to right size the 43 ministries and nearly 400 attached departments of the federal government before the end of the current financial year. Alluding to the fourth wave of the rightsizing, the Minister said that five ministries, including Communications, Railways, Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety, Revenue, and Petroleum, along with their attached departments, would be examined for rightsizing as per the mandate of the Committee.
During the subsequent proceedings, the Ministry of Communications gave a detailed presentation to the Cabinet body on the functions, organizational structure, and possibilities of semi-privatization and PPP models for various projects and initiatives of the Ministry. The Committee was informed that in the spirit of rightsizing, the Ministry of Communications had already abolished all dyeing posts.
Lastly, Communications Minister Abdul Aleem Khan mentioned that the NHA could become a major revenue spinner for the government if its resources were redirected to the construction of revenue-based motorways like the M-6 leading from Sukkur to Karachi port.
