The country's agricultural exports are witnessing significant growth due to the support of Special Investment Facilitation Council. Forty-five percent increase has been recorded in food exports at the beginning of this fiscal year while there is a reduction of eighteen percent in imports. According to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, food items worth 475.7 million dollars were exported in July. Rice topped the list with 135 percent increase in exports while sugar exports saw a phenomenal 590 percent increase. Exports of vegetables increased by one hundred percent while fruit exports increased by thirteen percent to exceed 40 million dollars. Exports of fish increased by 0.5 percent while the meat industry increased by nearly six percent, generating revenues of approximately 37 million dollars.
