Peace in South Asia linked with settlement of Kashmir dispute: Munir


Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Munir Akram says sustainable peace, stability and security in South Asia is linked with a just and peaceful resolution of Kashmir dispute in line with the UNSC resolutions and the aspirations of Kashmiris.

In his message on the occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day, he urged the United Nations, the Security Council and the international community to fulfill their obligations vis-à-vis the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Ambassador also renewed his pledge to continue to extend moral, diplomatic and political support to Kashmiris in their legitimate and just struggle for their inalienable rights.

Munir Akram lauded the sacrifices made by heroic Kashmiri people in their enduring struggle for freedom and self-determination against India’s brutal occupation since 1947. He said their right to self-determination has been recognized in the UN Security Council resolutions prescribing a UN supervised plebiscite. This is a binding commitment on India
, Pakistan and the UN.

The permanent representative said future of international order, based on the principles and purposes of the UN Charter, and indeed global peace and security depends on ensuring the just and peaceful resolution of the festering Jammu and Kashmir dispute and securing freedom and self-determination for peoples struggling against colonization and foreign occupation.

He said despite India’s brutal campaign to suppress the Kashmiri freedom struggle, the Kashmiri people continue to bravely resist Indian occupation. Munir Akram said the lesson of history is that no occupying power has ever succeeded in suppressing the aspirations of a people who are willing to render supreme sacrifices to defeat foreign occupation.
